Choosing your places
The pill in the top bar sets which place you are viewing in, and that choice filters most of the hub.
What this is
A place in Rivr is a real area. A town, a watershed, a bioregion, a council.
You belong to the places you join. You also choose, at any moment, which single place you are looking through. That choice is a filter, not a move.
What you see
The pill in the bar at the top reads: You are viewing in, followed by a place name or the words All Locales.
Pressing the pill opens a list. It has a search box at the top, then All Locales, then your places grouped under the basin each one sits in. Places that belong to no basin sit under Other Locales.
The place you are currently viewing in carries a tick. Commons places carry a star.
Down the left, My Places lists up to eight of your places, with the Global Hub at the bottom.
What you can do here
- Narrow the whole hub to one place. See Choose the place you are viewing in.
- Widen it back out again. See Go back to seeing every place.
- Add a place to your list. See Join a place.
How to
Choose the place you are viewing in
- Press the pill in the bar at the top.
- Type a few letters in the search box if your list is long.
- Press the place you want.
- The page you are on redraws, filtered to that place. You do not move.
Go back to seeing every place
- Press the pill in the bar at the top.
- Press All Locales at the top of the list.
- The page redraws with nothing filtered out.
Join a place
- Open Global Hub under My Places.
- Press Places in the breadcrumb at the top of the page.
- Read the panel headed Explore Places. It holds every place you have not joined.
- Press the one you want. Its own page opens.
What changes for you
Your choice is remembered for a year, on this browser and on your account, so the hub opens where you left it.
The pages that follow your choice are Events, Groups, People, Voice, Gigs, Explore and the Dashboard.
A place's own page does not follow your choice. It is the page for that one place, so it always shows that place.
On a place's own page, the same switcher does two things at once. It records your choice and it takes you to that place's page. Choosing All Locales there takes you to the Global Hub.
An older shared link that carries a place in its address still selects that place, and then drops it from the address bar, so a filtered page is never a separate link you can share.
If you have joined no places, the list offers All Locales and nothing else.
