What this is
The Map is the whole network drawn on a globe. Anything that carries a location sits on it.
It is one of the three ways to look at everything, alongside the Dashboard and Explore.
What you see
A globe filling the page, with a strip of controls above it.
A search box reading Search locations. A cross clears it.
Five buttons that choose what is pinned: All, Events, Groups, Posts and Offerings.
Two buttons beside them, marked AR and XR. AR puts the map over your camera. XR opens XR Earth, the walkable version, on a phone or a headset. Pressing either one again returns you to the flat map.
A row of layer buttons: Terrain, Buildings, Item Labels, Neighborhoods and Timeframe.
A fold-out marked Bioregions, holding a choice of bioregion grouping and a row of coloured layers you can switch on one at a time.
When nothing matches, the page says no locations were found matching your criteria.
What you can do here
- Jump to a town, a street or a landmark. See Search the map.
- Narrow the pins to one kind of thing. See Show only one kind of thing.
- Add terrain, buildings, labels, neighbourhoods or a time filter. See Turn on a layer.
- Open the page for a watershed, an ecoregion or a cultural bioregion. See Open a bioregion.
How to
Search the map
- Press the search box above the globe.
- Type a place name.
- Press a result. The globe flies to it.
- Press the cross in the box to clear the search.
Show only one kind of thing
- Find the row of five buttons above the globe.
- Press Events, Groups, Posts or Offerings.
- Press All to bring everything back.
Choosing one of these also returns you to the flat map if you were in AR or XR.
Turn on a layer
- Find the row of layer buttons above the globe.
- Press Terrain for the shape of the land, or Buildings for buildings.
- Press Item Labels to name the pins, or Neighborhoods to draw the neighbourhood outlines.
- Press Timeframe to filter by when something is happening. Switching it off again clears that filter.
Terrain and Buildings are unavailable on a deployment with no map data behind them. When they are, the buttons are greyed and say so when you hover them.
Open a bioregion
- Press the fold-out marked Bioregions.
- Choose a bioregion grouping.
- Switch on the layer you want. Its outlines are drawn on the globe in colour.
- Press inside an outline. That bioregion's own page opens.
What changes for you
Anyone can open the Map, signed in or not.
On a phone the layer controls become single icons and the bioregion choices open in their own panel.
A shared link that names a bioregion opens the globe already zoomed to it.
