A group's page
Every group has its own page with tabs for its feed, events, members, documents, work, market, decisions and more.
What this is
A group is a set of people who do something together. A household, an organization, a ring, a family.
Each group has one page, split into tabs. Which tabs exist depends on the kind of group. Which tabs you can see depends on whether you are a member and whether you are an admin.
What you see
At the top, a cover image, the group's picture, its name, and its description.
If the group sits inside another group, a trail of its parents runs under the name, each one a link, ending in this group.
Below that, the member count and, when the group has set one, its location. Then its tags and its links.
To the right sit up to three buttons. Group Settings appears for admins. Chat appears for members. The third is the join control, which everybody sees.
Under the header runs the tab strip. A basic group carries six tabs: About, Feed, Events, Groups, Members and Docs.
An organization carries fourteen: About, Feed, Events, Groups, Members, Docs, Jobs, Mart, Governance, Badges, Stake, Press, Treasury and Stock. A subgroup or an affiliate of an organization carries the same fourteen.
About is a page of panels you can arrange, like the Dashboard. Add widget and Reset layout sit in its header.
Its narrow left column holds About, which is the description, the tags, where the group meets and how to reach it, and Members, which lists who belongs with admins first.
Its wide middle column holds Org tree, which draws the subgroups, the projects inside them and the jobs inside those. A button in its corner switches between the indented list and a family tree, with the group on top and each generation on the row below it. Then Subgroups, the groups nested directly under this one. Then Upcoming events. Then Open jobs and roles, which is the work this group is asking for. Then Open decisions, which is the proposals, polls and issues still open here. Then Treasury snapshot, which is money in and out of the group wallet and is drawn for admins only. Then a map of this group's places.
Its narrow right column holds Docs and Recent activity.
Eight more panels are registered and switched off. Add any of them from the Add widget list: Badges, Stake, Press, Marketplace, Group needs, Groups your friends are in, Join requests and Member changes. The last two are for admins.
Feed is the group's posts. Members get a composer above them.
Events lists the group's gatherings.
Groups is the organization tree. See the organization tree page.
Members lists the people, with the count above them.
Docs is the group's documents.
Jobs is the board of projects and jobs.
Mart is the group's listings, with the total above them.
Governance is proposals, polls and issues.
Badges is the badges the group issues.
Stake is the member profit-share table.
Press is the group's press, news and media.
Treasury is the group's money. It is for admins only.
Stock has two parts, Inventory and Needs.
What you can do here
- Find and open a group. See Open a group.
- Write something for the group. See Post inside a group.
- Talk to the group in a chat room. See Open a group's chat.
- Decide who can see each tab. See Change who can see a tab.
How to
Open a group
- Look at My Groups in the menu on the left.
- Press the group you want.
- Its page opens on the About tab.
To reach a group you have not joined, open Groups under Manage and read the panel headed Discover groups.
Post inside a group
- Open the group.
- Press the Feed tab.
- Write in the composer at the top. It appears only if you are a member.
- Publish it.
Open a group's chat
- Open the group.
- Press Chat at the top right. It appears only if you are a member.
- The group's room opens in Messages.
If nothing happens, the group has not switched its chat room on yet. An admin does that in the group's settings.
Rearrange a group's About tab
- Open the group.
- Stay on the About tab.
- Press and hold a panel to loosen it, then drag it where you want it.
- Pull its right edge, its bottom edge or its corner to change its size.
- Open a panel's own menu to move it a place at a time or to hide it.
- Press Add widget in the header to bring one of the eight switched-off panels in.
Your arrangement is yours. It applies to every group's About tab, not to that one group only.
Change who can see a tab
- Open the group.
- Press Group Settings at the top right. It appears only for admins.
- Press the Tab Visibility tab.
- Set each tab to Public, Members, Admin or Hidden.
- Press Save Tab Visibility.
What changes for you
By default, About, Feed, Events, Members, Press and Stock are public. Groups, Docs, Jobs, Mart, Governance, Badges, Stake and Treasury are for members. An admin can change any of these.
Treasury is the one exception. It is removed for anyone who is not an admin, whatever the setting says.
Only members see the Feed composer, the Chat button, the Add Listing button on Mart, and the Flow Pass button.
The Membership card lists this group's plans for sale, and any subgroup's plan that is switched on with a price, named after its subgroup. Classes nobody can subscribe to, such as Rivr's Stewards and Workers, never appear there.
Only admins see Group Settings, Manage membership plans, Create Subgroup, Add Relationship, Post Job, the Members admin panel, and the documents filesystem view.
Creating an event, and editing the Needs list under Stock, are open to admins and, when the group allows members to post, to members.
Asking for a tab you cannot see lands you on About instead.
Where this connects
- Joining and leaving explains the third button at the top right.
- Members and roles explains who is an admin and how that changes.
- The group treasury explains the Treasury tab.
- Hubs and panels explains how to arrange the About tab's panels.
