Instances of Rivr

Rivr runs as several instances that trust each other, and this page names the ones that are live today and what each one is for.

What this is

Rivr is not one site. It is a small fleet of instances, each running the same hub, each owned by somebody, and each trusting the others.

The hub at app.rivr.social is the front door. Every account can sign in there, it shows every place at once, and it is the instance that vouches for people to the others.

A person can run their own instance, and a group can run its own. Their profile, their documents, their rooms and their things live there, on their own computer, and the hub shows them alongside everything else.

What you see

These instances are live today.

The hub, at app.rivr.social. The Global Hub lives here, and so does the Map with XR Earth.

Cameron's own instance, at rivr.camalot.me. A person instance. It hosts Cameron's Room, the room behind the portal at his address.

Spirit of the Front Range, at spirit-of-the-front-range.rivr.social. A group instance. It hosts the Spirit Room, behind the portal across the street.

Mutual Aid Boulder, at mutual-aid-boulder.rivr.social. A group instance.

Two more, bob2 and mab2, are test copies of a person instance and a group instance, and they are not for daily use.

Each instance has the same menu, the same panels and the same handbook. What differs is whose home it is, and what it hosts.

How to

Find the instances you belong to

1. Open Profile under Manage.
2. If you are taken to another site, that site is your home.
3. Open Groups under My Groups. A group that runs its own instance names it on its page.

Sign in on another instance

1. Open the other instance.
2. Sign in with the same account. The hub vouches for you and no second password is needed.
3. You see what that instance lets you see, under your own name.

What changes for you

Your account has one home. Everywhere else you are a visitor whom your home vouches for.

A room is entered on the terms of the instance hosting it. What it lets you see follows its own visibility settings, not the hub's.

Every instance answers the same way for assistants and for other instances, so a portal on the hub can lead to a room on any of them.
