Finding things

The four ways to find something. Search, the map, your notifications and your saved list.

What this is

There are four ways to find something in Rivr, and which one you want depends on what you remember about it.

If you remember a word, search. If you remember where it was, the map. If it involved you, your notifications. If you kept it, your saved list.

What you see

The search box sits in the bar at the top, on every page. It reads: search people, places, groups. Pressing it opens the search.

The results page heads itself with what you searched for and counts the results. Five tabs run across it: Posts, Events, Groups, People and Listings. A tab shows its count only when it has something in it.

With nothing searched yet, a card invites you to search the network and offers some examples to press.

When a place is chosen, a line under the heading says the results are filtered by it.

The Map is the same world by location. The bell is your notifications. Saved under Manage is your bookmarks.

How to

Search everything

1. Press the search box in the bar at the top.
2. Type a word or a name.
3. Read the results grouped as Posts, Events, Groups, People and Listings.
4. Press a tab to read one group at a time.
5. Press a result to open it.

Search inside one place

1. Press the pill in the bar at the top and choose the place.
2. Press the search box and type your word.
3. A line under the heading confirms the results are filtered by that place.
4. Press the pill again and choose All Locales to widen it.

Find something by where it is

1. Open Map under Home.
2. Type a place name in the search box above the globe.
3. Press one of the five buttons to show only Events, Groups, Posts or Offerings.
4. Press a pin to open what it stands for.

Find something you kept

1. Open Saved under Manage.
2. Press the tab you expect it under, or stay on All.
3. Press the card to open it.

If you did not bookmark it but it involved you, press the bell in the bar at the top and look through your notifications instead.

What changes for you

Anyone can search, signed in or not.

Search also returns matches from other instances Rivr federates with. Anything you can already see in the hub is left out of those, so nothing appears twice.

Your saved list needs you to be signed in.

Search covers posts, events, groups, people and listings. It does not search inside your documents or your conversations. Documents are found under Docs, and conversations under Messages.
