Connected services

The outside accounts you can link to Rivr, the feeds you can follow, the archives you can bring in, and the messengers you can bridge.

What this is

Rivr can read from and write to accounts you hold elsewhere.

There are four kinds of link, and they all sit on one tab in Settings.

What you see

Open Settings under Account and press the Connectors tab. Four panels sit down the page.

The first is a grid of cards, one per service. Each card shows the service's name and whether you are connected. When you are not, it reads Not connected and carries a Connect button. When you are, it names the account or counts them, and the button reads Connect another account.

Under that grid sits a second one for domain providers. Their cards say they are for connecting your domain provider.

Followed feeds lets you follow public article, video and calendar feeds. New items arrive as your own posts and events. No sign-in is needed for these.

Import an archive brings in a personal data export. Re-uploading a newer export only adds the new items.

Messenger bridges links a messenger to your Rivr inbox through a self-hosted bridge. Your sign-in never leaves the server.

How to

Connect an outside account

1. Open Settings under Account.
2. Press the Connectors tab.
3. Find the service in the first grid.
4. Press Connect.
5. Sign in to that service and agree to what Rivr is asking for.
6. Come back. The card now names the account.

Press Connect another account on a card to add a second account of the same service.

Follow an outside feed

1. Open Settings under Account.
2. Press the Connectors tab.
3. Find the panel headed Followed feeds.
4. Add the feed's address.
5. New items arrive as your own posts and events.

Bring in an archive

1. Open Settings under Account.
2. Press the Connectors tab.
3. Find the panel headed Import an archive.
4. Upload your export file.
5. Upload a newer export later if you want. Only the new items are added.

Bridge a messenger

1. Open Settings under Account.
2. Press the Connectors tab.
3. Find the panel headed Messenger bridges.
4. Follow the steps for the messenger you want.
5. Open Messages. A new tab appears for that network.

What changes for you

You must be signed in to connect anything.

Each service asks for a specific set of permissions, and each one is listed and named before you agree.

The credential your assistant uses is not on this tab. It lives on the Assistant tab, on its own, so it is never linked by accident.

Domain providers are listed separately from the rest, because they are only used when you publish a site.
