Your first day
A short list of the things worth doing the first time you sign in, in the order that makes the rest make sense.
What this is
Rivr makes more sense once it knows two things about you. Where you are, and who you are.
This page is the shortest path to both. It takes one sitting.
What you see
On your first visit the Dashboard greets you by name and offers a pill that asks whether you have something to share today.
Most panels are empty and say so in a sentence. Today's tasks has nothing to tick. My groups' jobs tells you it has no work because you are in no groups. The conditions panel has no weather because it does not know where you are.
The menu on the left is already complete. My Places and My Groups are the only two headings that start empty.
What you can do here
- Put your name, picture and a line about yourself on your profile. See Fill in your profile.
- Tell the hub where you live. See Set your home place.
- Join a group so the group panels have something to show. See Join a group.

How to
Fill in your profile
- Open Settings under Account.
- Stay on the Account tab.
- Fill in Name, Username, Tagline and Bio.
- Add your skills under Skills, one at a time.
- Add a picture under Profile Photos.
- Press Save Changes at the bottom.
Set your home place
- Open Settings under Account.
- Stay on the Account tab and find Home Locale.
- Choose your place from the list.
- Press Save Changes at the bottom.
- Press the pill in the bar at the top and choose the same place, so the pages you read are filtered to it.
Join a group
- Open Groups under Manage.
- Read the panel headed Discover groups. It lists the groups in your place you have not joined.
- Type a word in the search box to narrow the list.
- Press a group to open it.
- Press the join button at the top right. Its wording depends on the group. It may read Join Group, Apply to Join, Request Pending or Invite Required.
Make your first post
- Press the plus button in the bar at the top.
- Stay on the Post tab.
- Write your post.
- Choose who it is for. Leave it as it is for everyone, or press the visibility control and name the places, groups or people who should see it.
- Press the button that publishes it. You land on the post you made.
What changes for you
Your home place is what the weather panel and the feed panels fall back to when you have not filtered to a place.
Until you join a group you cannot post inside one, claim its work, or vote in it.
Everything you make is visible to everyone unless you narrow it. Who can see what explains the choices.
