A place hub

Each place you belong to has its own front page, with a local feed, a map of what is live, and the nested belonging of the place itself.

What this is

A place hub is the front page of one place. A town, a basin, a watershed, a council.

It is the page that answers what is going on here, without you filtering anything.

You reach it from My Places in the menu on the left.

What you see

The title is the place's name followed by the word Hub. Above it sits the line of places it belongs to.

For a watershed or an ecoregion the title is the scope's own name, and the line above reads what kind of scope it is and at what level.

If you are signed in you are greeted by name, with a pill asking what is happening in your neighbourhood.

Beside the greeting sits a conditions card named after the place, holding the weather, the air quality and the moon. A place with no coordinates has no conditions card.

The narrow left column holds two panels.

Where this is draws the place's nested belonging. When the place is tied to named scopes, it draws up to four chains, labelled Political, Cultural bioregion, Watershed and Ecoregion, each name a link. Otherwise it draws one line of ancestors ending at Global. Beneath that sits a small grid of facts, labelled Altitude, Population, Members and Watershed, and then the coordinates.

High activity listings shows the offerings drawing the most attention around here.

The wide middle column holds the Local feed. Its tabs read Posts, Events, Groups, People, Gigs and Mart.

The narrow right column holds three panels. Happening right now pins what is live nearby on a globe. Local ads shows promoted offerings from people and groups here. Local good news shows the gratitude and good news posted around here.

The page header carries Add widget and Reset layout. Everything else about a panel is on the panel itself.

How to

Open your place

1. Look at My Places in the menu on the left.
2. Press the place you want.
3. Its own page opens.

Read the local feed

1. Open your place.
2. Find the Local feed panel in the middle.
3. Scroll inside the panel. More items load as you reach the bottom.
4. Press an item to open it.

Narrow the local feed

1. Find the Local feed panel.
2. Press one of its six tabs: Posts, Events, Groups, People, Gigs or Mart.
3. On the Posts tab, type a word in the search box to narrow it further.
4. On the Posts tab, press one of the five kinds: All, Social, Offers, Requests or Gratitude.

See where a place sits

1. Open your place.
2. Find the Where this is panel in the left column.
3. Read the chains. Each name is a link to that larger scope's own page.
4. Press a name to open it.

What changes for you

Anyone can open a place hub, signed in or not. A signed-out visitor gets no greeting and no sharing pill.

A place hub does not follow the pill in the top bar. It is the page for one place, so it always shows that place.

On this page the place switcher does two things. It records your choice and it takes you to the place you picked. Choosing All Locales takes you to the Global Hub.

A scope's own page adds two more sections to Where this is, listing what the scope contains and which places sit inside it.
